Biathlon World Championships impress with sustainability: Oberhof wins IBU OC Award for Excellence in Sustainability
The International Biathlon Union (IBU) has honoured the organisers of the BMW IBU World Championships Biathlon 2023 in Oberhof with the IBU OC Award for Excellence in Sustainability. The focus of the award was on public transport and the use of HVO fuel.
When the two OC heads of the BMW IBU World Championships Biathlon 2023 in Oberhof, Thomas Grellmann and Bernd Wernicke, returned to Thuringia from the OC meeting in Prague, they had a special surprise in their luggage: During the organisers' meeting of the International Biathlon Union last weekend, the World Championships organisers were awarded the IBU OC Award for Excellence in Sustainability.
IBU President Olle Dahlin presented the award, which is endowed with 10,000 euros and was established last year, to the OC heads. The award highlights the organising committees' contributions to the goals of the IBU's 2020-2030 sustainability strategy in the priority areas of climate, sport, venue and event, people, and communication and awareness-raising, and aims to promote effective measures worthy of emulation.
